Choose Excellence

“Why choose mediocrity when excellence is an option?”  – Dr. Ivan Misner, Founder and Chief Visionary Officer of BNI.

That made me smile the first time I heard that.  I heard it again recently while listening to Dr. Misner’s podcast.  I can certainly relate to that as Maximiser is #2 in my top 5 Signature Themes of my CliftonStrengths assessment.  I am particular about getting the best results and I do so by working with the most competent people and making sure my time and energy are optimized.  I’m not a perfectionist, no, it’s simply a deep desire to make the most of what works.  Otherwise, I will not waste my valuable time.

I like the way Dr. Misner framed that thought.  Excellence is an option.  He’s not imposing excellence on people, he’s suggesting it.  One has a choice.  Plan ahead, utilize resources, execute well and finish on time.  Or wing it, do things at the last hour, look harassed and stress yourself out.  It’s really a choice.

Choosing excellence increases one’s credibility. Customers would seek your products.  People would be willing to pay good money for your services.  You attract like-minded people.  You make a difference in people’s lives.

What would the world be without inventors, explorers, adventurers and visionaries?  We’ll be stuck in the Dark Ages!

There won’t be automobiles and jet planes to take us on journeys to pursue our dreams.   You won’t be able to hold world leaders accountable for their actions without ubiquity of information. There won’t be the world wide web and mobile phones that allow us to communicate beyond borders and reach out to people we never thought we could.

Don’t be afraid to choose excellence.  You’ll be surprised what you can accomplish.
